Hey everyone! Sacred Arts here with another topic to cover, Consultations. This is going to be more geared towards those of you who have never gotten a tattoo before, and are looking for a place to start, but some of you who have gotten tattoos as walk ins in the past with smaller tattoos may take something away from this for when you dive into your first big piece.
So you want a tattoo. You decide to message the shop with an image of the tattoo you want, maybe describe some alterations you want made, where you want it, and are hoping to get a price. While we are happy to give you a quote, most of the time it is impossible to do it this way. That’s where consultations come in. In order for us to, first and foremost, tell you if your idea will function as a proper tattoo that will stand the test of time, and in order for us to be able to give you a price, there are many things we have to see, and discuss with you. This is something that must be done in person. We need to see your skin, how big of an area we’re going to cover, you skin complexion, if you have any scars, and so much more. We can’t see all of that through photos because they are too difficult to do in a way that truly represent your body in the way we need to see it. Just look at how much work photographers put into taking photos of the same thing, over and over again, just to get the representation of it similar in the photograph compared to what they see in front of them. Not only this, but if you’ve never been to the shop before, or you’ve not picked an artist yet, a consultation is the appropriate time to pick an artist, have a conversation with them, and see if they’re someone you’d like to work with. It also gives you a chance to see the cleanliness of the shop, how professional they are as a whole, not just the person you’re working with, and many other details that should be considered when getting a tattoo. This is a very personal experience and it’s important that you do some due diligence to make sure you get the best experience your area has to offer, and if your area doesn’t have a good one, you know to start looking in neighboring towns or cities.
So please do a little digging. Come to the shop for a consultation so you can get the full picture of the tattoo experience, and not just what the price will be. I promise it will leave you not only with a great tattoo, but a great experience and maybe even some new friends.
We hope to see some of you in here for a consultation soon!
